We're Back!

And a happy hello and welcome back to the world of school runs, cooking dinner, homework and 50 degree temperatures...!

We have returned from our sojourn in SA, most enjoyable, it was brilliant to see all the family and let the children spend so much time with their cousins. It was also brilliant to be so spoilt by my parents and sister - I could really get used to it...

Anybody looking for a super holiday destination could do a lot worse than SA - the weather consistantly outperformed Scotland's summer weather (OK, so that's no big deal) - although the nights were chilly, the days were lovely and warm with clear blue African skies and brilliant red sunsets. Many happy evenings were spent on the patio at my sister's house, watching the sun sink as we sipped on a glass of wine and listened to the kids playing together.

We went to the Drakensburg Mountains, did horse riding and canoe-ing; stayed at Dikhololo Game Reserve and cycled through the veld, admiring buck and giraffe; we explored underground caverns (and coined the phrase MightyTights - the structure formed when stalagmites and stalagtites meet); we stayed out of spitting reach of snakes and played with lion cubs, we experimented at a terrific hands-on Science museum; we rode miniature trains. We also learnt some SA history by visiting the Voortrekker Monument and the War Museum; we stayed on a farm and saw a newly born calf and watched a litter of puppies being born; we went to a show at the Planetarium; and we stroked a cheetah which visited one of the schools.

Anyway, as they say over there: Another Sh*t Day in Africa.

Back to AD!
