Ballet meet Broadway

Friday was the boys' day of Fame! Well, Grease, actually. They are involved in Musical Theatre which they have been attending every week during the past year and really enjoy. On Friday all their hard work culminated in a show at the National Theatre - great excitement.

Only, I'm not sure they're going to want to do it again next year : I dropped them at the theatre at 11 for dress rehearsals and was told to collect them again at 1. At 12.30 I got a call from one of the moms to say that she had heard the entire group had been kicked out of the theatre and were sitting in cars waiting to be allowed in again. I started making calls and found that apparently the workers at the theatre had prayer time between 12 and 1 and couldn't pray with all the noise - so, exit the actors!

I arrived back at the theatre to be informed that my boys had both split the black pants of their very expensive costumes so I borrowed a blunt needle and bright green thread and fixed the huge holes - given my sewing abilities, it took a looong time.

Then I had to take the boys back into the theatre and was supposed to leave them and return at 2.30 - because of the last experience I decided to just stay and wait there, as did a lot of other parents. We were allowed into the theatre at 2.30 so I went and got seats for Darrell and Stephanie and checked on the boys who were sitting in the performer's rows.

They told me they have never been so bored in their lives! Their hair was no longer greased back and they were very untucked and dishevelled (how did their teacher think boys could stay neat for 4 hours?), so I sorted them out then sat down to enjoy the show.

The first act was a ballet, it was lovely - and Stephanie is looking forward to performing (starring?) in it next year.

Second act had different musical productions, and the boys' one was a dance to Grease (is the word). There were 3 boys and about 10 girls doing it, and they did well.

After the show they told me it was fun, but they didn't want to do it again next year....they have better uses for an entire Friday!
