The good...

There are times when living in Abu Dhabi does have some advantages. For instance - Tuesday morning. This week the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has been performing at Emirates Palace, hugely expensive tickets but D and I seriously considered going along anyway (fortunately for our wallets, work got in the way so we didn’t go).
But the orchestra finished their tour with a “Young People’s Concert”. This was aimed at young people (you guessed that, didn’t you?) and we had to email the organisers with a request for tickets in order to get in. I did this, and was rewarded with 4 tickets – 3 for the brats and one for their chaperone (me. Sorry, D had to work again). So yesterday morning we dolled ourselves up a bit (no shorts and slops in the Emirates Palace!) and toddled off to enjoy some culture.
And we all enjoyed it, even those of us (me!) who aren’t musical. It was a skeleton orchestra and they played 5 movements from Beethoven’s Septet (I think 2,3,4,5,6), accompanied by a presentation on the music, what it meant and how it was written. The kids could follow the music while listening and they made it really easy, so even those who can’t read music (me!) could understand it.
It only lasted an hour so just as Stephie started getting restless, it was wrapped up – apparently the orchestra had to dash to catch their flight to France.
And best of all ... it was FREE! Just staged to encourage music in the younger generation, and paid for by the AD government. Thanks, AD Government!
Oh, and the kids were on half term break, in case you wondering if I had pulled them out of school for this treat.
