My brush with the law...

Yesterday I was stopped by a cop! Yes, really, the first time in AD and actually, I think the first time ever (not counting road blocks in SA, of course).
I had a busy morning, complicated by David leaving his violin at home (despite having been reminded several times about his lesson) and Darrell having his car in for a service and needing to be taken through to the bank in the city and then to his site on Saadiyat Island. With all of this, the school run, which usually takes me about 45 minutes altogether, lasted 4.5 hours altogether - my entire morning was blown.
And at some stage in my driving around the city, I stopped in a taxi lay-by to pick Darrell up from the side of the road.
And NO - I wasn't arrested for soliciting!
I pulled back out into the traffic, only to find the lane I was in was a right-only lane, and I wanted to go straight. So, I indicated to move left and no-one would let me into the lane. I ended up driving along the right hand lane past all the traffic, and then as the lights changed I was able to pull in in front of a bakkie and head straight across the intersection. Only to find a cop waving me down on the other side.
He asked to see my drivers licence and studied it really carefully. I was starting to wonder if I had a fake licence and was feeling as guilty as if I did have, when he handed it back to me. He told me not to change lanes before an intersection, nodded at my explanation and waved me off.
Now, this may sound like no biggie to people in other countries, but there are cases here of people being arrested for things they didn't even realise were illegal or just because the cop thought they weren't being respectful enough.
So I pulled off again (very carefully!), and Darrell stopped making mental plans about how to cope with the kids while their mom was in jail...
