It's been a busy week in Doha and around. Having been in Doha for 2 months, it was time for us to do a 'visa run'. Which means having to leave the country and then re-enter it in order to get new visas stamped in our passports. The timing was excellent - Steph and I had arranged a girly weekend away with Amelia and Rachel, the boys had a rugby tournament in Abu Dhabi (playing agains their old teams), and Darrell had a car to sell and a boat to sort out.
Darrell went to AD a bit before we did and was able to pick us up from the airport. We dropped the kids off at their old school to meet up with their friends for playdates and dashed around sorting out hundreds of odds and sodds.
On the Friday morning, we girls left for our 'Break' and the boys headed off to the rugby tournament. Needless to say, we had a fabulous time at Raffles Hotel in Dubai, got treated luxuriously, spent the whole time swimming, chatting, eating and drinking and being spoilt by very well trained and attentive staff.
The boys also had a good time - of a slightly different kind. They scored tries and made tackles and got very dirty and bruised and apparently it was wonderful. I will never understand the males of the species, but just as well they don't expect us too to enjoy their strange pursuits.
We all met up just in time to dash to the airport where the kids and I flew back, in time for school the next day.
The plan was for Darrell to fly home Tuesday afternoon after finishing things off, but true to form, there was too much to do so he changed his flight to Tuesday night. And then, he missed the flight. I could go on at length about that, but being a forbearing and totally wonderful wife, I won't.
I will only mention in passing that while he was staying in AD for an extra night, I had a child fall off her bike and break her arm and another one develop a rotten tummy flu - so two kids off school, hospitals to visit - and no hubby around to help! To give him his due, the moment he landed this morning he took over the tummy patient leaving me to toddle from Paeds to A&E to X -Rays to Orths to Pharmacy..... Steph thought it was quite important having a broken arm, but by the time the cast was done and we could leave, she was in quite a lot of pain and had had enough and in true Steph fashion was announcing it to the world. Oh, and I got ever so slightly lost driving home from the hospital - I will blame being distracted by a weeping Steph in the back seat.
