David's Birthday

Somewhere in amongst all of the festivities, a little boy turned 7. For his choice of day, we went to the Dubai Mall (recently built) and admired the aquarium there. There is a huge viewing window which stands a couple of floors high. There is also a glass tunnel which goes through the aquarium so that you can walk right through it and practically touch the huge fish and shark which swim right past you. I wonder how frustrating it is for them - there's dinner, freshly served, and they can't get at it!

The aquarium was super, with lots of intersting fish and sea life, including otters and seals, but it was too busy (this is what happens when a birthday falls on a Saturday) - we're going to go again sometime.

In the mall, as well as the super fish tank, is an ice-skating rink. Those of us in our family who skate (the obvious exception being Darrell-who-falls) got ice-skates for Xmas, so we had to go and try them out. The rink was obviously lovely and new, also weirdly warm, so although we were on ice, we didn't need jackets. Again, though, it was a bit too busy and Steph ended up spending most of her time looking after Darrell on the stands.
