Waterlogged

We had a day spent on water - pretty appropriate considering that we live on an island. Firstly, in the morning, we decided to go for a paddle on our kayaks. Someone else is storing his kayak in our garage with ours, and gave us permission to borrow it, so all 5 of us headed out to sea together for a long paddle. It was absolutely lovely. I really wish I'd taken my camera, but I was a bit nervous of my new toy getting wet - not an unreasonable fear considering we were sitting on water! It was absolutely beautiful. We launched next to the mangrove swamps near our house, and paddled to an island that was not really far away, but seemed to get further away with every pull on my shoulders. David was in his own kayak on the way there, and I ended up having to give him a tow for a while. Alex was on his own on the way back, and Darrell had to help him as well. Steph told me that she wasn't tired at all, as she sunbathed in the backseat of my kayak....

In the afternoon we went out on a friends' boat with them, considerably further than our little morning's jaunt. We found some beach and had a little braai, before heading back. We were stopped by the sea police when out there, and our friends had to show their papers before we could proceed. Our friends are Egyptian Moslems, very respectable people, so the police didn't feel the need to search the boat, but apparently westerners can be searched for alcohol, and the police come down heavily on offenders. Good thing we would have been clean if they had searched!
