More weekend

One of the things that I really do like about living in the UAE is the amount of things there are to do on the weekends. Last weekend we had several options: a horse show / big soccer match / golf lessons on beach / philhormonic orchestra playing disney tunes..

Friday was my choice - the horse show. It was near a place called Bab Al Shams (luxury hotel resort, really plan to visit there one day), a bit in the desert. Not a problem for Darrrell's trusty SATNAV. He really enjoys that toy, I think he likes out of the way places just so that he gets the satisfaction of testing it.

The horse show was lovely, there was a lot of stuff (all free!) for the kids - jumping castles, petting farm, puppet shows, balloon making, camel rides, face painting and of course, pony rides. I believe that Steph had about 17 rides - after about 10 minutes of watching the show jumping the kids and Darrell got bored and went off to play. And they were all kept fully occupied until the show was all finished. The jumps were unusual, all UAE themes, sand dunes, coffee pots, UAE flag, camels, a dhow. There were several Sheiks competing and one Sheikha (lady Sheikh). Which I found quite interesting, as she was wearing regulation riding kit, which is very tight fitting and revealing. I wonder if she had someone standing by to throw the abaya over her as she dismounted?

The Saturday was some boy time. Darrell was working during the day, but he got home at 5 to take the boys to Bayern Munich (sp?) versus Al Jazirah (the AD club) at a big stadium not far from us. I gather they had a good time, and the boys' latest passion has been reinforced. Football has replaced tennis and piano and in their little lives - I watch with amusement to see what's next...
