15 years ago, Darrell and I visited Mauritius on our honeymoon - a romantic peaceful holiday destination.
Last month, Darrell and I and Alex and David and Stephanie joined Kirsten and Carl and Megan and Alistair on Mauritius - an active fun and sun filled holiday destination.
Funny how the perspective changes!
We started out at Le Coco Beach, which had been recommended to us as a very child friendly resort. It was, but it was also shutting down at the end of April, and had been allowed to get a bit run down. We had no hot water in our room for the first couple of days, but what really upset me (and Megan) was that the "school" of horses and ponies consisited of 1 horse and 1 pony that were in a rideable state. They offered us another horse, but I declined it as I have strong view on putting bridles over open wounds on a horses head. Very disappointing!
One the plus side, the snorkelling was terrific, the beach was lovely, the food plentiful and the kids had fun at the kids club.
On my actual birthday we took a powerboat out to look at a waterfall, then to a marine park - which we had thought was going to be slides etc (groan) but turned out to be an excellent snorkeling spot, then to Ile Aux Cerfs, a beautiful little island with crystal waters.
That evening we had a lovely meal out with the entire family, all dressed to kill before a walk on the beach....
