You may be familiar with those lyrics. They certainly have been buzzing around my head today. The main road outside our compound has been undergoing construction for the past year and we have found access to our area getting more and more indirect. Well, today a new section of the road was opened and we're able to see what the road will be like in another year when it is completed. Which may sound all good, but...
When leaving our compound to go on the main road, as per usual, we found ourselves driving down a blocked-off street. We had to drive back up the main road (thus on the wrong side of the road) to get back to the compound. Then, by taking a bit of dirt track and a couple of small circles, we managed to get onto the main road beyond the blocked off bit. All good so far. It was coming home again that was actually the tricky bit.
In order to get to our house we start at Point A and do a very large circle - about 10 km. At approximately 270 deg, we pass our compound but are unable to get to it. At 359deg (so we're about a hundred metres before point A) we can spiral onto a smaller circle - only about 5 km this time. At 270deg again, we can turn off the circle and, doing only one U-turn, achieve our destination.
I'm not sure how exactly they could make it more difficult for us the next time they change the roads, but given the ingenuity thus far displayed, I'm sure they'll find a way...
