We had visitors!!
It's very bizarre, but when we were in London, we had a lot of visitors, friends and family from SA coming for a long stay, a short stay or just an overnight on their way somewhere. And it was lovely to see you all!
When we were in Scotland, we had fewer visitors from SA - Edinburgh is apparently not quite as on the beaten track as London. Of course, we had our London friends visiting us to make up for the decrease from SA.
And now we're on a desert island. Think Robinson Crusoe. Think romantic palm trees swaying in the breeze next to azure seas. Think pina colados while tanning on the beach.
OK, that's the romantic AD done.
The real AD doesn't attract many visitors - no booze on the beach; actually there's no real sand on the beach either; no palm trees without a lot of black piping surrounding them .... but the sea IS azure!
Therefore, when we do get our occasional visitor, we have to make the most of them and ensure that they see EVERYTHING this place has to offer.
So, my sister and her children bravely decided to visit us. When I say brave, considering the temperatures were edging up to 40 deg, I think you'll agree. Leaving the husband and father behind (he said he had to work but I think he was afraid of camels), they ventured across here: Megan with a keen sense of adventure and determination to enjoy all on offer, my sister with trepidation and Alistair just because they were coming.
All in all, their visit went well. We took them walking on the dog beach, we searched the souks for magic carpets, we explored museums and went kayakking, we 'did' the Mosque, we attended a reahearsal of the London Symphony Orchestra at the Emirates Palace, we travelled to Dubai, went camping in the desert, visited the Falcon hospital and spent a day at the Atlantis Adventurepark. Wow, was it busy! The kids didn't fight too much, the pool broke down but that didn't deter people from swimming in it (more fun when you can't see each other underwater!), we ate out a lot so I didn't have to cook too much - and Daisy worked like a demon keeping the house tidy! Thank goodness for Daisy!
Kirsten, Megan and Ali - it was lovely having you here, please feel free to come again - although I really don't know what we'd do with you this time round as all the boxes got ticked!
