Every year my girlfriends from Scotland and I meet up and have a girly weekend away from family. It is always a wonderful time and we look forward to the next one from the moment we head home from the last one.
This year was scheduled to be in Milan - previously we have done London, Paris and Dublin. So, a bit of a wing-stretch - but not too far, it still has to be somewhere with direct flights from both Edinburgh and Abu Dhabi.
Anyway, our bags were packed, we were ready to go (my flight was tonight) then the ruddy volcano blew its lid again and closed Edinburgh airport. Our trip is off.
We are gutted and greeting. But I suppose it would have been worse for the girls if it had happened while we were actually in Milan and they couldn't get home again!
