Lost in Abu Dhabi!

Yes, that was me. And I was on my way to school - I've only been going there several times a day for the past 3 years!
I was leaving home to find that my usual route had been blocked off - there has been a GCC conference here for the past 3 days so major routes and 3 major hotels have been closed off - so I took an alternative route. After all, I know all the routes around here!
There's also been a new bridge and motorway built from the island of AD to the mainland, and I found myself taking them, in my way around the road closures. Now, I knew ('cos I KNOW this place) that there was a new off-ramp shortly after where the new motorway joins the old which will take me to a stop only 10km past the school, I can wind my way back very easily. Only the new off-ramp took me into a construction site. Then I had the choice of going on to Dubai or returning to AD. So I went back to AD.
Briefly, after having left 45 minutes early for the school pickup, I arrived there bang on time.
Good thing I do contingency planning!
