We've got another new foster-puppy. This one is roughly 8 weeks old, really tiny, very sweet. Steph is very taken with her and carries her around like a baby. Anyway, so we were out walking our 4 dogs and 3 kids this morning, the two big dogs having some off-lead time while Steph and I had the puppies and Darrell was adjudicating races between Alex on roller blades and David in bare feet. First race was a tie, second race was won by David but before we could do the third race, we had an INCIDENT.
The grassy area outside our compound is divided by knee high hedges and the big dogs had gone behind one of the hedges a bit in front of us. I could see they were playing with something so I hurried forward to see what it was. You can imagine my horror when I saw they had a kitten caught between them and were playing tug-of-war and toss-the-kitten. It was trying valiantly to protect itself but was definitely not winning.
I chased the dogs off and then stood over the kitten keeping them off until Darrell ran up and grabbed their lead. The poor little kitten was not in a good state - and to add to its problems, the reason that we were all home and out walking today is because it's a public holiday here - National Day - so none of the vets were open.
With the help of one of my SAD friends, I eventually managed to get hold of an emergency vet who would accept the kitten, so I drove it through there and left the poor wounded half blind thing with them.
What a sad day we've had!
